Estate Sale Wrap-up and Wonderful New Shop in Inman Park

On Saturdays, whenever I can (and regardless of weather), I take out my trusty van to shop the garage, estate and other sales in the Atlanta area.  My favorite neighborhoods are Brookhaven and Buckhead - in-town with a lot of great find potential!  After checking craigslist and EstateSales.NET, I found the most promising sales today were in the Decatur, Morningside and other in-town neighorhoods.  On most Saturdays, my friend Ouida joins me as principal navigator and fellow buyer - we have a great time.

I have found that the first one or two sales set the tone for the entire morning.  If the first two are lousy, it is unlikely that others will be very appealing.  Therefore, it is really important to get the plan right.  Today, we found a wonderful sale in a neighborhood called Lion's Gate - not far from Emory University. Lion's Gate is an older townhouse community and has charming interiors.  The location for this sale was no exception.  The items were well displayed and prices were reasonable.  Ouida collects both elephants and roosters and found some of each.  I found a smallish round all-wood table that was a great price and might work in  my foyer - if not, I know I can find a place for it.  So, the day started out quite well!

We hit a few more sales - and the most interesting thing we found was a sequined bra that I couldn't talk Ouida into buying - I thought it was a hoot!

After a few more sales, we found a cooperative on Elizabeth Street in the Inman Park area of the city.  We met the co-owner, Sharon, and spent some time looking at some of the great items she had for sale. The cooperative has not been in business long and looks very promising.  We shared email addresses and I suggested she look into selling Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (one-track mind - I wish someone in town would sell this stuff).  She gave me a card (and I lost it) - so all I can do is show photos of signage in front and some of the interior.  We will definitely be going back to this sweet shop.

My Favorite - Sewing Basket
A highlight of the visit to the shop was a "vintage sewing basket".  It is almost exactly like one that my mother had in Holland and brought to America with her - my sisters and I just loved this piece.  My dad, who was a pretty good wood-craftsman, was talked into making one for my younger sister - just  like the original.  Eventually, he made one for each of us and I still have mine - right next to my seldom used sewing machine.  Nice to see and a great way to end the morning run!
