December Visit to Scott's Antique Markets - Atlanta

This is the second weekend of the month and an opportunity to visit one of my favorite Atlanta marketplaces - Scott's Antique Market link to website. Today, I was checking out my newly arrived January issue of Architectural Digest and saw an article called "Insider Secrets of the AD100". These designers discuss travel, inspiration and sources secrets. One of the designers interviewed, Atlantan Suzanne Kasler, provided the following source secret:

Every time I go to Scott's Antique Markets in Atlanta ... I find unique items: maybe a fabulous wood sphere, great art fabric, or custom-made pillows. Really anything you can think of."

How timely! My normal companion on these trips (friend Bette) and I, however, were somewhat disappointed in this month's market. The booths were less crowded with wares for sale and less populated with buyers. We discussed this with several vendors who said that this is a low-volume sale month for many vendors and some have just stopped coming. Here we were hoping for a huge holiday extravaganza and opportunities for last minute gift shopping. Nevertheless, it was a beautiful warm day and we enjoyed our visit including the highly-recommended ice cream cones in the Southern building.

Here are some of the red and green items we saw - all would work well in a holiday setting.

I bought five of these hand-made reindeer and added bows. Three of them are proudly displayed in my foyer. My plan is (was) to give them as holiday dinner favors to my family but I may just keep them!

I Love Black and White!

I love black and white in decorating (as well as fashion - most of my closet is black and white). I think it has a clear, crisp look and adds interest to any room. I am in the midst of a basement "mini-renovation" and am contemplating how much black and white (or grey) to include in the space. I am not redoing an adjacent space with is already painted and carpeted a taupe gold so that is a color I will have to work with but I am definitely planning to add charcoal cabinetry and painted doors - the choice of furniture and rugs will follow.

I have a pinterest board on this subject - link to decorating in blacks and grays and spent some time looking at my "pins" today - I found some wonderful images and ideas.

Black and White - the most simple combination there is but one that is probably the most powerful. As much as I am a colour person, I can't go without some simple blacks and whites to compliment the decor setting. Isn't it just a classic? And I find myself completely in love with the white couch with the black accent

These French style chairs are wonderful and complement the warm colors in the room - I think the woodwork is a dark brown as well (not black) which suggests further options for upholstery. source

I have a piece of black velvet that I could use - this photo makes it look very doable although I worry about how much dust and dirt it might show. source

I will have to make some choices soon for my "new" terrace-level space (aka basement - we don't like that word basement here in the South). Future postings on this subject to come including some before and after looks.

Suzanne Kasler's Atlanta Go-to Shops - Pure Inspiration!

I have been aware of Atlanta decorator Suzanne Kasler's wonderful taste and international fame for some time - she is featured in so many of the decorating magazines I have been getting for years and years and she is one of the designers that, in my opinion, can do no wrong. If I were to have the option of redoing my entire house (a heady thought), I could do no better than to follow her designs and would be very happy!!

Traditional Home Magazine (one of my favorites) recently interviewed Suzanne and published a list of her favorite shops in the Atlanta area. Link to article in Traditional Home. I looked the list over and found that I had only been to two of the locations mentioned. Not surprisingly, Suzanne's clients' budgets and mine are not the same but I have set a personal goal to visit as many as I can this year - it will be an adventure in understanding and acquiring some of her great taste!
