High Society - 1956 |
From my earliest memories of watching movies, I have paid as much attention to the room/setting behind and around the actors than I have for what is going on in the story. I will always remember the great oversized wingback chairs in High Society - that great remake of The Philadelphia Story starring the elegant Grace Kelly. She lived in this beautiful home (mansion) and Bing Crosby lived next door in an equally wonderful place. There is a scene in which Bing (as Dexter) is sitting in one of these fabulous wingback chairs that I could not find anywhere on my internet search but these chairs were truly memorable.

Movie sets, because they are so visible and widely seen, obviously strongly influence the way people think about their own space and have certainly influenced my thinking over the years. Here are a few movie sets that I did find in my search - not nearly as many as I thought I would.

Rebecca with Cary Grant
and Joan Fountaine - I love the wonderful chairs - my personal passion, of course!

Something's got to give
with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson - this has become an iconic setting much copied - a nicely composed neutral setting

|
Cleopatra with Elizabeth
Taylor - this may not work for everyone but there are ideas here!
