Martha's Sale - a Neighborhood Tribute!

Estate Sale at Martha's House
I found out this morning that my deceased neighbor's family had engaged an estate sale company to sell their mother's goods and the sale started today.  I ran right over to see what this stylish lady's home looked like and the kind of furnishings she surrounded herself with - it was a sweet experience that I just had to share.

A few words about Martha, the neighbor who lived not even two blocks from my home on the same street in Peachtree Corners, GA.  She (and her predeceased husband Bob) were very elegant and clearly still heads-over-heals in love with each other after many years of marriage.  They attended the same church as we did and generally the same service, so we would see them almost every Sunday.  Martha always wore a hat that matched beautifully with her well-coordinated ensemble.  She was usually the only woman with a hat at the service and I envied her style and courage.  And, even more interestingly, her husband always wore clothing that coordinated with Martha's look.  If she was in black and grey, so was he.  He even had those unusual color blazers that you don't see everyday - rose, light blue, pale green.  They sat close to the front and held hands during most of the service - a very sweet couple.  I remember when their offsprings and extended family attended with them to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary - it was a sizable crowd.

Most of my neighbors will remember Martha as the woman who drove the huge Cadillac at, or below, the stated speed limit coming into the neighborhood (25 miles an hour).  NO one else did that and there was always a long line of cars inching behind her - a sight to see!

The sale was enlightening.  I had though Martha would be into fine old pieces and perhaps a bit of extra bling and shine - and she certainly had been.  There were patriotic items, old clothing pattern (lots of these), a large collection of sailing ships and patriotic paraphernalia, and formal french furniture - lots of it heavily gilded.  I took photos and tried to imagine her in the vibrant setting!

Large Mirror and Self Portrait (of sorts)
